Drew shook his head as he read the list and explanation of what happened with Adam.  “That’s crazy, we live in Degrassi..not exactly the hood.  God only knows why we have gangs” he wondered.  “I love you too, Adam” Drew said, wiping a stray tear away from his eye quickly, praying Adam hadn’t seen it.  He couldn’t help it, Adam just seemed so helpless.  Drew leaned over and gave Adam a gentle hug, being careful not to knock into anything.

Adam shrugged when Drew said he didn’t understand why there are gangs in Degrassi.  He figured there were people who hate him everywhere, people who thought he would be better off dead.  Sometimes there was a group, sometimes only one or two but they were everywhere.  He winced slightly when Drew hugged him.  He carefully lifted his uninjured arm to put it around his big brother.

Drew sat back down at the edge of the bed after his embrace with his brother.  “You didn’t do anything to deserve this shit” he shook his head.  “I wish I could help you, make it go away” he sighed.  “People are ignorant, violent assholes bro.  And I couldn’t be sorrier that you have to deal with them” he said.  If there was a way Drew could help Adam, he would do it in a heartbeat.  Drew would always feel a protective instinct over Adam, it was just the way things were.

“Concussion too?” Drew asked surprised.  It’s like Adam’s list of injuries was unending.  “Jesus Fitz is a mad man” Drew shook his head disapprovingly.  “If I could just get one-” he stopped himself, knowing fighting him wouldn’t do anyone any good anymore.  Drew reached down onto the bed and unwrapped the other games for Adam, letting him look at the games he’d bought for his brother.  “Listen bro” he said seriously, putting everything down “If you ever need anything, I’m here.  Even though we fight and all, I’m always going to be your big brother.” he said.

Adam nodded when Drew asked if he had a concussion too.  He typed down the list of his injuries including his broken jaw, arm and concussion: fractured eye socket, broken nose, two broken ribs and stitches in the back of his head.  ”There was five of them.  Fitz and four other guys.  If Clare hadn’t called 911 and scared them they probably would have killed me.”  He shook his head, looking at the games again.  When Drew began speaking, he looked up at him again.  ”I know.  I love you.”  He handed the iPad to Drew again.

Drew laughed when Adam gave up on the tape.  He picked at the tape while Adam typed, getting frustrated quickly when he couldn’t grab on to lift it up.  “Fuck it” he grunted, looking around for something sharp to break the seal with.  “Games?” he asked, racking his brain for what games he’d bought.  “Damn I can’t remember the names for the life of me” he laughed, his memory was just out of whack lately, it got to be annoying but there wasn’t much he could do about it.  He reached for the bag he pulled the box out of and tossed it over to Adam carefully.  “Take a look”.

Adam dumped the bag out on the bed next to him, looking through the game titles.  A couple first person shooters and the new Madden NFL game.  ”I hope I don’t get as dumb as you because of my concussion,” he typed out, laughing again.  He picked up one of is new games, ripping a corner of the shrink wrap off with his teeth so he could unwrap it.

Drew sat down on the edge of the bed while Adam looked at the pictures of Athena.  He saw Adam try to smile with his broken jaw, and knew that Adam would love her once he got to meet her.  He took the iPad to read what Adam had said.  There was definitely an air of something not right in the room.  “Don’t even worry about it bro” Drew shrugged “We get upset about the littlest things, and blow it all out of proportion, it’s mom’s fault” he chuckled slightly.  They both got their irritability from their mom.  “I know this probably isn’t the time” Drew said, but couldn’t wait any longer “but I brought you this” he reached behind him and grabbed the box containing the new PSP in it.  Drew offered the box to Adam with a shy smile.

Adam smiled again as Drew handed him the box with the new PSP.  He picked at the tape that held the box closed with his good hand before finally giving up and handing it back to Drew so he could open it.  He’d gotten used to playing video games with one hand while his arm was in a sling following the shooting and he knew he would get the hang of playing it.  It would keep him occupied while he until he was out of the hospital while Clare was at school.  ”What games did you buy me?” he typed, handing the iPad back to Drew with a laugh as he watched his brother struggle with the thin piece of tape on the box.

Drew could sense the pain Adam was in.  Instantly any awkwardness faded from him and all that mattered was his brother’s condition.  He placed the PSP on the table behind him, unnoticed by Adam as he was typing on the iPad.  “I get it” he said calmly, sitting down on the edge of the bed.  “I have some pictures of Athena” he said, “on my phone.  If you wanna see your niece?” he half asked as he began to pull up pictures of his daughter.  He figured keeping Adam distracted would be the best idea.

“Yeah,” Adam muttered, nodding slightly, not bothering to type, instead reaching for the phone.  He smiled looking at his niece with Drew and Eli, Eli’s parents and his and Drew’s parents.  ”She’s cute,” he typed after handing the phone back to Drew.  He wasn’t sure if it was because he couldn’t talk or because of the fight he and Drew had had but something didn’t feel right to him.  ”Sorry,” he typed simply, looking up at his big brother.

Drew placed a kiss on Athena’s fragile head and then a slightly more passionate kiss on Eli’s lips as he walked out the door.  “I’ll be back a little later” he called out as he shut the front door behind him.  Brand new PSP in hand, Drew made his way to his car.  He drove to the hospital and got out, walking in to the front desk.  “Adam Torres?” he questioned, waiting to be told where his brother was.  Drew rode the elevator up 3 floors.  His nerves began to set in slightly as he remembered all of the stupid fights he and Adam had gotten in the last few weeks.  The elevator bell rang and Drew walked out, scoping out his brother’s room in the white halls.  Finally he came across the room.  Drew stopped outside the room, took a deep breath and peeked in the doorway.  He spotted Adam laying in bed, looking pretty beat up.  “Hey..” he said comfortingly, walking in and standing next to his mangled brother, holding the PSP behind his back.
